With Safe Water Enterprises, Siemens Stiftung is committed to a sustainable supply of safe drinking water in rural regions in Kenya. Small kiosks are equipped with mobile SkyHydrant water filters, which remove suspended solids, bacteria, and viruses from water with hair-thin membrane fibers. The filtration process operates without electricity, requiring no grid connectivity. The purified water is sold at an affordable price; the earnings cover operational costs. In addition to expanding the supply of drinking water, Safe Water Enterprises create income opportunities for members and local communities. Community members receive technical and business training to become kiosk operators.

This project involves youth to participate in water pollution monitoring and give pressure to government to strengthen industrial water pollution control in Brantas River Basin. Young Water Future Leaders Program also involve youth to promote integrated water resource management, river restoration, disaster risk reduction and encourage community participation in watershed management
The role of Indonesia’s women in the management of water resources is very low due to lack of knowledge, skills, education, capital, and health services. Therefore, the sustainable development of water resources management can be achieved by considering the balance access for male and female through gender mainstreaming in the management of water resources. The objectives of this research are: (1) to improve access on safe and clean drinking water for rural area, (2) to analyze water utility for every household, (3) to enhance women’s participation in water management, (4) to analyze women’s participation on water management system through operate water treatment system. The output of this research is developing a portable drinking water treatment system in rural area, The study area of research was conducted in Sungai Rengas Village in West Borneo, Indonesia with total area 453,13 Km2 and 23.537 inhabitants. The research method used the combination both of quantitative and qualitative method. The portable water treatment system used organic materials as filters i.e sand, gravel, fibers and charcoal. The parameter was investigated on this research such as total dissolved solid, pH, DO and water temperature. Identification of women’s participation in water management system used SWOT analysis. Data analysis in this method used External Strategic Factors Analysis Summary (EFAS) for external strategic factors containing an opportunity and a threat to the sustainability of the project. To analyze the internal factors which contain strength and weaknesses in this study used Internal Strategic Factors Analysis Summary (IFAS). The result of the parameter investigation showed that the organic filters and solar power able to provide clean drinking water for household. The result of the survey showed that approximately 56% women commit to involving on water supply management with the composed group of 60 female participants responsible for simple water treatment system in 12 households on Sungai Rengas village. The workshop questionnaires showed that all participants very satisfy with the workshop and can apply the information of water treatment system for their household. Effective communication with local leader and community led success to advocate women participatory and leadership in water supply management. SWOT analysis leads to the Strength-Opportunities (SO) strategy by the development of water treatment system with women’s participation in management for a low-income community to increase awareness between economy and water availability in Indonesia. 11
Umoja East Africa Fund (UEAF) is currently promoting an Eco-enterprise Project. The project is promoting energy saving cooking technology to facilitate energy efficiency and save environment for better livelihoods. Currently we are working with communities in Kiha community to start up energy saving business scheme for skills development especially among the youth and women. The project targets to build capacity and have a class of Trainers and of Trainees in stoves construction, business and entrepreneurship among others. Efficient application of Energy saving stoves can contribute slowing down Natural resource degradation, reduce the ongoing massive deforestation and promote eco-entrepreneurship with an aim of improving sustainable natural resource management while earning the youth and women an income. Other expected results include; empowered youth and women in their respective Self Help Groups established, more income generating activities startup and savings for continued investment in the initiative. 11
Is a social project with the objective of reconnecting the young people who live in the favela Belém with the Tucunduba urban hydrographic basins. A series of activities that allow to access basic information about the Tucunduba River as fundamental concepts of urban watersheds, resources, pollution, Basic Sanitation and other related themes are conducted to stimulate the recognition and the spatial perception of the environment and its relation with a daily life of the city and encourage the building of critical solutions to the problems identified.
n Indonesia, flooding and drought are mostly an interlinked anthrophogenic disasters, resulting from resettlement expansion of human beings so that limited spaces of water to be reserved. The case occurs not only in urban area but also in rural area leading the devastation of human lives; and social, economic, and ecological loss. Along with these aforementioned issues, the prevention is necessarily needed for mitigating these disasters. The ongoing IGAF project is “Making Biopori Holes”- a translation of Bogor Agricultural University Research project into social actions for the above burdens. The project is in accordance with Risk Management and Planning. The goals of the Making Biopori Holes are to provide more than 1000 biopori holes with more than 1000 participants getting involved in the project, and to provide a simple tool and method of making biopori holes. The objectives of the project are to provide an simple, affordable, and applicable technology for flooding and drought prevention; and to give multi-benefits for local communities not only for flooding and drought prevention but also for the fertiliy of agricultural soils; and to educate and raise awareness of children, youths, and local communities about the importance of biopori holes for risk management.
