RISE is a student-run organization empowering students to rise up and apply their knowledge in solving environmental problems in Rural China. Through the collaboration between local and International Students, we create the exchange of knowledge, idea, and culture to achieve sustainable development.

We build and monitor sand-iron filters in a number of villages near Pingyao, Shanxi. Households are mainly farmers, meaning filters must be low-cost. The local water supply has high arsenic and these filters are designed to remove arsenic to below 50 ug/l.
